A Message to Tinchy Strider

It’s misled. I don’t care if you made it up to rhyme with mistreated, or if you use an 8-bit–style riff to appeal to my geekiness — The word is misled. That is all.

Leeds Festival 2008

I’m still tired even a whole day after getting back, but I though it was worth it to mention how good the festival was, yet again!

I didn’t get a ticket immediately after last year, but waited until March. With hindsight, I reckon an early bird ticket might be required from now on, as it was even busier than last year! I even missed out on the brie and crackers…

Again, my list of bands includes a couple of bands for whom we only saw the odd song:

Friday

Saturday

Sunday

Metallica
Pendulum
Avenged Sevenfold
Dropkick Murphys
Plain White T’s
Alexisonfire
Mindless Self Indulgence
Eureka Machines

Babyshambles
Rage Against The Machine
Vampire Weekend
Goldfinger
Friendly Fires
Biffy Clyro
Serj Tankian
Dizzee Rascal
Taking Back Sunday

The Killers
Bloc Party
You Me At Six
The Raconteurs
Seasick Steve
Hifi Handgrenades
The Automatic
Random Hand

Again, I felt like I missed a load, but with so many on at the same time it’s impossible to get it all in! Thanks go out to Rob Marshall for his clash finder, which helped out greatly!
Leeds Festival Line-Up

Woo, I got my ticket! Here’s the line-up so far:
Leeds Festival 2007

What can I say!

If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it. We stayed in the same place as the last few years, getting there early and still struggling to find space, since so many had gone in on early tickets (plan for next year?). Olly was coming after work, so the brie and crackers would have to wait!

This is who I managed to see during the weekend. Most I saw all the way through, but for some we only caught a couple of songs.

Friday

Saturday

Sunday

The Smashing Pumpkins
Lostprophets
Fall Out Boy
Funeral For A Friend
Wes Packer (comedy tent)
The Used
Billy Talent
hellogoodbye
Pull Tiger Tail
Late Of The Pier

Ash
The Living End
Kings Of Leon
Mad Caddies
Enter Shikari
Capdown
Maxïmo Park
Jimmy Eat World
The Enemy
Plain White T’s
Gossip

Red Hot Chili Peppers
Arcade Fire
Bloc Party
Dinosaur Jr
The Pigeon Detectives
Angels & Airwaves
Nine Black Alps
Good Shoes
Eagles Of Death Metal

I missed a few that I wanted to see, including a secret appearance from the Kaiser Chiefs on Saturday, but I saw enough to make up for the misses!

And as for next year? I might as well get the ticket now!
Song Covers That Work, But Shouldn’t

Strangely, a ska-core version of “Don’t Let Me Get Me” (originally by P!nk) and a punk version of “Just A Little While” (Janet Jackson) seem to me like they wouldn’t sound half bad? Maybe that’s just me then.

Less Than Jake + Dropkick Murphys + The Living End + Billy No Mates

Awesome!

I was originally planning not to go, but when Reg popped round and said he had a spare ticket for £17.50, I thought: “why not?” At this time I had no idea who were supporting, so you can imagine how good it felt to find out that The Living End and Dropkick Murphys were two of the warm-up acts!

Both were amazing, except TLE unfortunately didn’t play their cover of “Tainted Love” — ah well!

And then for Less Than Jake…

When they played at Leeds Festival, they played a lot of stuff from their then-forthcoming album In With The Out Crowd, which I didn’t own. This time, however, they played mostly songs of a Losing Streak / Hello Rockview era, which was brilliant!

Aside from the music, it was great to catch up with Cait, who had been avoiding me, and Joe, who travelled all the way up from Manchester. His long journey back meant that he got back around 6am and had a 9 o’clock lecture. Oh dear!

The Automatic + Mumm-Ra + Alterkicks

Last night we went over to Newcastle University Union to see The Automatic, supported by Mumm-Ra and Alterkicks. Liverpool-based band Alterkicks played an indie-ish (but not retro, oh no not retro) set to begin with, followed by Sussex boys Mumm-Ra and their eclectic pop/alternative rock mix. Having missed them at Leeds this year (due to sleeping in) I was glad to see them!

And finally to The Automatic, who did not disappoint with their blend of pop-punk, electronic and indie rock. If I ached from yesterday, then I don’t know how to describe this morning! Apparently I’m getting old!

Back to Newcastle this evening for Hannah’s party — in fact, must go make a CD…
